Volunteer Spotlight - Cindy M.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

As a retiree, I live with my husband outside of Indianola on an acreage. We have several dogs and 2 cats.

Why do you volunteer?

I volunteer to stay active, something to do as sometimes I get bored now that I’m retired. I like to socialize, keep busy, and also feel helpful.

Why did you choose to volunteer with HIRTA Helps?

I attended an Open House at the Indianola Senior Center when they were highlighting different ways to volunteer.  I found out about HIRTA, thought it sounded interesting. I called and checked into it and the rest is history, lol.

What has been your favorite part of being a volunteer?

I like to be helpful, visiting with others and the riders; they enjoy telling me about themselves and stories, very interesting. We have a fun drive and interesting conversation.

What is your favorite story of a time you helped someone?

I can’t think of a favorite story, every driving trip is interesting and enjoyable to me.

What would you say to people who might be on the fence about volunteering through HIRTA Helps?

I would encourage others to give HIRTA a chance, it’s very interesting and very important to our riders. It helps to stay active, getting out and about. You can receive mileage reimbursement, also, if you choose.

Thanks, Cindy, for being a leader in your community! If you're interested in volunteering with HIRTA Helps, visit www.HIRTAHelps.org or contact our Volunteer Coordinator.
