HIRTA to Begin Transit Service for Grimes Residents

The Heart of Iowa Regional Transit Agency (HIRTA) is proud to announce a new partnership with the City of Grimes to provide transit services for its residents. The Grimes City Council approved the agreement on March 25th, 2025, with service set to begin on June 15th, 2025.

“We are excited to bring our services to Grimes and ensure residents have access to reliable, accessible, and affordable transportation,” said Julia Castillo, HIRTA’s Executive Director. “Our goal is to support independence and mobility for all, and we look forward to working with the community to provide a seamless transit option.”

HIRTA is currently reaching out to existing and potential riders in Grimes to coordinate services and ensure a smooth transition. In addition, HIRTA is partnering with Grimes Volunteer Support Services (GVSS), a local volunteer program with 70 dedicated volunteers who assist more than 210 residents with transportation to medical appointments, grocery stores, social events, library visits, and more.

HIRTA is committed to making this transition as seamless as possible for Grimes residents. HIRTA will provide outreach and education on how to access services, including rider guides, informational sessions, and personalized assistance for those new to the system. By working closely with the City of Grimes and community partners like GVSS, HIRTA aims to enhance mobility and improve the quality of life for residents who rely on public transit.
