HIRTA Welcomes Three New Ford Transits to Enhance Rural Public Transit Services

HIRTA is excited to announce the acquisition of three new Ford Transits, marking a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to providing top-notch transit services to the rural communities we serve.

These new vehicles arrive at a crucial juncture, allowing HIRTA to retire older buses and introduce more efficient models that will not only enhance service but also significantly reduce maintenance costs.

The unique design of the Ford Transits, featuring the message "For anyone for any reason," underlines a commitment to inclusivity, sending the message that HIRTA is a service for everyone, regardless of their background, needs, or reasons for travel.

Funding for these Transits was made possible through Federal support, assistance from the Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT), and local matching funds. Despite challenges with the supply chain that led to prolonged waiting periods and escalated costs, HIRTA remains committed to delivering transit services to central Iowa communities.

"The addition of these new Ford Transits is a testament to HIRTA's dedication to delivering efficient, reliable, and inclusive transit solutions to our residents," said Julia Castillo, Executive Director of HIRTA. "These vehicles not only represent an upgrade for our fleet but also embody our mission of being 'For anyone for any reason.' We are excited to roll out these distinctive vehicles, reinforcing our mission to serve all members of our diverse communities."
