My name is Erin Newbury and I am the new Safety Program Manager here at HIRTA Public Transit. I graduated from Grand View University with a degree in Journalism and have spent the last ten years in both the safety and fitness industries. While I am new to the transit field, I am looking forward to learning as much as I can to keep our communities, riders, and drivers safe. I’m also looking forward to getting out into the communities and riding along with you.
In accordance with the executive mask mandate order put in place January 21, 2021, and the newly released TSA (Transportation Security Administration) Safety Directive 1582/84-21-01, HIRTA will continue to enforce the federal mask mandate to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
This is an important safety measure to protect both our drivers and you, the rider. Proper masks must be worn at all time while on HIRTA buses. Masks must cover nose and mouth, fit properly, and not have any holes, slits, or valves in them. Face shields are NOT acceptable at this time unless worn in conjunction with a proper mask. Homemade or store-bought masks are allowed, along with N-95s and other medical grade masks.
Failure to comply with this measure will lead to denial of trips for that day and further non-compliance could lead to disciplinary actions in line with TSA recommendations. We are taking this issue very seriously and we ask you do the same.
