Help out by adopting a rider!

HIRTA exists to help and serve our communities, that’s why we’re promoting our Adopt-A-Rider program. People ride HIRTA for a variety of reasons. Some people ride with us while their car is in the shop, some to save on gas, some because it’s easy. But some people ride with us because they have to.

Heart of Transit was established by HIRTA as a non-profit entity to enhance transportation services within central Iowa. Donating allows us to serve our communities and provide rides to food banks, health clinics, jobs or wherever else they might want to go. So please, consider donating. Every donation, no matter the amount, helps HIRTA continue to provide this valuable service to those who rely on us.

The good news is, there are many ways to help! The easiest way to help is to simply ride HIRTA. You benefit and we benefit - it's a win-win! Another way to help is by making a tax-deductible donation to Heart of Transit. You can find out more by going to www.heartoftransit.com/donate. If you’re looking for a fun way to contribute, you can make a purchase from HIRTA’s merchandise store. All proceeds go directly to HIRTA's Adopt-A-Rider program to help those in need get rides to food, work, healthcare, etc. Check out our store at www.ridehirta.com/store. We will also be offering fun giveaways to people who we see sporting our HIRTA gear! Stay tuned…

The Adopt-A-Rider program is crucial to provide rides to those in need. It is often misconstrued that funding for public transit comes solely from the government. However, it is a mix of federal and state dollars, contracts, local tax, fares and miscellaneous funding. This includes donations, grants, advertising revenue among others. Donations fall under the miscellaneous category, which makes up only 3% of HIRTA’s revenue. For more information on funding, go to www.ridehirta.com/funding

We thank you for your support.
